Moon Square Moon in Synastry Follow Up

A couple of my loyal readers generously sent me more information enabling me to take a deeper look at the synastry with their partners, both instances with Moon in Leo square Moon in Scorpio. Naturally the results were quite interesting, at least for this astrologer.

In the first case, I was amazed to see ten conjunctions between personal planets and Angles in their synastry. It has always been my contention we need a conjunction or three between the charts to provide enough common ground between individuals to build a relationship on. Trines and sextiles add harmonics, squares and inconjuncts add dissonance and oppositions can bring balance as well as tension but without conjunctions tying the whole composition together, the relationship will often gradually (or abruptly) fall apart.

Perhaps the most significant aspects are a Moon conjunct Mercury & Mercury conjunct Moon. This set of aspects is an “intra-aspect” where the same two planets from both charts aspect each other; in this case forging a direct link between thoughts and feelings. Even though their Mercury’s are square by sign indicating very different styles processing information, when they sit down to talk about how they feel, understanding quickly emerges.

Venus conjunct Venus is another winner as is Mars sextile Mars. Both of these aspects contribute to their mutual happiness by indicating similar ideas of fun and the ability to work together on projects as a couple.

The second couple with a Moon in Leo square Moon in Scorpio is shy on conjunctions but does have several other very favorable synastry aspects. One of which is the sign rising in one chart is on the Descendent in the other chart, creating a sense of natural partnership. Underscoring this is an abundance of one person’s planets including both the Sun and Moon, in the other person’s seventh house.

A very nice intra-aspect for them is Sun trine Saturn & Saturn sextile Sun. Harmonious Sun-Saturn synastry aspects provide a solid foundation for lasting relationships and often indicate a marked difference in age. A lovely Moon-Jupiter intra-aspect says they can be emotionally generous and supportive to one another, making it much easier to overlook points of contention.

In this case Venus is trine Venus by sign and Mars sextile Mars by degree as well as sign – great aspects for planning outings and pleasant weekends together or just getting together to prepare good food at home. Many times it is the small things that can make or break a relationship.

An additional thought on Moon square Moon in Leo and Scorpio has to do with the both being fixed signs. Fixed signs tend to hang on to the status quo for better or worse out of a dislike for change. For these two couples, that tenacity has enabled them to move past the rough spots and explore other, more pleasant aspects of their relationships.

It really did help having good, complete birth data (date, time & place) for all parties because of the importance of the chart wheel and Angles in synastry.

This was fun! Thanks for sharing, you two! 🙂

  1. Very nice!

Tracy Marks in her updated The Astrology of Self-Discovery has a nice piece towards the end about “transcending our natal chart” (through transits, relationships, or conscious choice). She says that our relationships “provide us with opportunities for becoming.” Nice flowing aspects can soften our own difficult natal aspects. Challenging aspects from a loved one can force us to expand our capacity to express the challenged aspect in a fuller way. It’s a perhaps more spiritual or holistic way of looking at it.

Also, I think Steven Forrest says something about needing those dynamic aspects in a love relationship to keep a necessary spark!

  2. Very interesting follow up. I mentioned in your last post that my bf and I have Scorpio-Leo Moon as well. We have a few other good links too:
His entire Virgo stellium (Sun, Venus, Uranus, Pluto + Mercury in Libra) falls in my first house
My Moon falls in his 7th house.

The other connection we have is that, in synastry, our Saturns are exactly trine and fall in each other’s 7th house- I think that that is the glue that holds us together. In our composite chart, Saturn also fall in our 7th house and makes an exact trine to the composite Moon.

  3. Hi leslee,

Nice flowing aspects can soften our own difficult natal aspects. Challenging aspects from a loved one can force us to expand our capacity to express the challenged aspect in a fuller way. It’s a perhaps more spiritual or holistic way of looking at it.

I can see this working quite well. However, first we have to be aware of our internal dynamics surrounding the natal planet. One of the reasons I keep harping on the importance of gaining understanding of our natal charts first and then focusing on the synastry.

  4. Hi Michelle,

His entire Virgo stellium (Sun, Venus, Uranus, Pluto + Mercury in Libra) falls in my first house
My Moon falls in his 7th house.

Many successful partnerships, both personal & business, have planets in the first & seventh houses. Generally speaking we get a lift from people whose Sun & Venus in particular fall in our first house or on the ASC. Moon in the seventh is classic synastry.

The other connection we have is that, in synastry, our Saturns are exactly trine and fall in each other’s 7th house- I think that that is the glue that holds us together. In our composite chart, Saturn also fall in our 7th house and makes an exact trine to the composite Moon.

Nothing quite like Saturn in synastry for “glue”. 🙂 If your respective Saturn’s also aspect each others personal planets or Angles, that helps even more. I have noted the type of aspect seems less important than that there is one.
