Observations: The Power of Guilt & Saturn in Libra

Saturn has a traditional association with guilt, one of the gateway emotions leading to anger and resentment; and with Saturn in Libra we are in the process of learning more about how guilt can destroy once functional relationships.

Recently I was watching an episode in Sharpe’s Justice where he confronts his estranged wife over her withdrawing all his savings from a bank and spending the money on herself and her paramour. She attacks him viciously because she knows what she did was wrong but feels unable to admit that. In the end, she begs her lover to kill Sharpe on the battlefield to help erase these feelings. This is an extreme example but a good illustration of what happens when we ignore our internal sense of right and wrong.

Sadly I have seen similar examples of people lashing out at their nearest and dearest, knowing they have behaved badly but unable to admit to it. Saturn is a stern taskmaster when it comes to behaving in an honest and mature manner, and will keep reminding us when we don’t . . . over and over and over. The best place to start is taking great care to always be as honest as possible with yourself – and then with those closest to you.

This past year Saturn in Libra and Pluto in Capricorn have been exactly square twice with the third and final square tomorrow, August 21. Pluto has a talent for reminding us why we need to clean up our act and behave like responsible adults or else. He may have kicked the door open temporarily but it is up to us to keep it open by accepting the less pleasant side of ourselves in an open handed way.

Saturn’s method of resolving issues is to break it down into small portions and work through those step by step. In Libra, he is willing to help us improve our relationships the same way by determining where we have behaved badly and making it right. Most of us have some idea of right and wrong taught to us by the Saturn types in our lives, usually the parental unit. Keep in mind Saturn in Libra is all about equity and has no hesitation about demanding all parties accept their responsibility for what went wrong in any given relationship. Yeah . . . fun!

Over the next couple of years we will have plenty of opportunities to either repair our relationships or walk away from them. Remember there are always different points of view and if either party is adamant they are completely in the right, then walking may be the best option. Libra can be surprisingly ruthless (cardinal air after all) when it comes to cutting the ties when all the weighing and balancing is done.

Saturn’s lessons are tough but his rewards are correspondingly great. So don’t give up on yourself or your significant other just yet. Apply liberal doses of kindness and wait 24 hours. ***grin***

Heck, yes! We are so underestimated.

Have you seen Judge Judy in action? Or read her book “Beauty Fades, Dumb is Forever”? If not, I highly recommend it for a good laugh. That lady’s got beyond a stellium in Libra, and she’s not afraid to use it. She’s right-on/fair in her advice, too! At least this Mercury-Scorp thinks so. She and George Carlin (Taurus) are my favorite celebrities :), and over the next couple of years, with Saturn up my arse, I will be taking pages from their books, continuing to firm up and stand up for myself whenever necessary.

Great post. Have an awesome weekend, Lady D!

    • I love George Carlin too. The man never saw a sacred cow he didn’t take a direct swing at! Always left me laughing until tears were running down my face.

  2. Interesting. On a private Yahoo group I’ve been on for years, an active discussion is going on today about sexual fidelity versus infidelity in committed relationships. So apropos.

Oh yes indeed! I know I’m hard-wired for sexual fidelity with my Scorp influence . . . anything else is out of the question.
