New Moon in Leo, July 30, 2011

This is a seriously over the top New Moon at 07° 16′ Leo on 30 July 2011, 11:40 AM PDT. The already boisterous Leo energy is amplified by a square from Jupiter in Taurus, making it very, very easy to over indulgence.

Feeding the Leo New Moon conjunct Venus is a trine from Uranus in Aries, just about guaranteed to add more drama not less. While fire signs (Aries, Leo and Sagittarius) will probably enjoy this, there will be plenty other folks who will be ducking for cover or calling the authorities to report loud parties in the neighborhood. Normally this type of thing will blow over quickly when everyone sobers up but since Pluto in Capricorn is inconjunct the New Moon the consequences may be far more serious and long lasting. Remember Uranus is still closely square Pluto at this point in time and rebellious behaviors are not going to be taken lightly. So what might start out as a lively party with everyone having a good time could devolve into something far more destructive and serious. If you are planning a big event for the last weekend in July you might want to decide against serving alcoholic beverages. Just saying . . . .

Venus moved into Leo on 28 July and immediately started fluffing her gorgeous hair and preening in the attention she is due. This is always a fun place for Venus and those with this placement natally generally know how to catch the eye. They have a knack for putting out a “come hither” look and letting you know they know how to enjoy life.

Please don’t forget Mercury either! Mercury in Virgo is at a virtual standstill, preparing to station retrograde on 2 August and this can hamper communications and clear thinking. Add in an exact opposition to Neptune in Pisces and we all better plan on a few miscues and flat out failures to communicate at all. For those who are planning on traveling during this time, take extra care you have everything you need and double check departure and arrival times. Even though I’m usually pretty casual about Mercury retrogrades, even I take precautions on the days just before and after Mercury stations. Those with personal planets and Angles from 0 to 2 in Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces will be affected the most, so please give yourself and those closest to you a lot of latitude in case of screw-ups.

Mars in Gemini is off doing his own thing during this lunation, probably busy chatting up friends and relatives his last few days in Gemini before moving into sensitive Cancer on 3 August. Yes, the day after Mercury stations retrograde. Cancer is not a good fit for pushy Mars. He is inclined to be reactive and irritable here. A trine to Neptune in Pisces will soothe him for a day or so but just wait until he runs into Uranus and Pluto. Fun!

Unless you have planets and Angles in the mid-degrees of the cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn), Saturn in Libra will probably remain quietly in the background. Not to worry, there is plenty else going on. *grin*

On the surface this is a happy, enjoyable lunation and most will simply relax and have a good time. The fire signs (Aries, Leo and Sagittarius) will be the most inclined to ignore any undercurrents. Due to Mercury stationing opposite Neptune, I anticipate a general delay before the consequences resulting from poor judgment calls begin to roll in. In the meantime, gather up your patience and make a serious vow to take all the rhetoric and exaggerations due to the Mercury-Neptune opposition with a large grain of salt.

On a personal note: Perhaps the reason I’m taking a more pessimistic approach to this shiny New Moon in Leo is because Saturn is drawing ever closer to my Moon and the New Moon itself will conjoin my Saturn closely, triggering a natal Moon-Saturn aspect. Not only that Jupiter in Taurus is squaring my Saturn, creating a T-Square by opposing my natal Jupiter. Can’t seem to get away from Saturn these days! On the plus side is a nice trine from Mars in Gemini to my natal Sun-Chiron conjunction, allowing a look at long term painful issues in a constructive manner.

  1. I will do my best to respond to comments on earlier posts & get Part Three on the rulers of the 6th & 10th up as soon as I can. Mercury slowing to station is often the period that affects me the most. 😛

  2. Will keep you posted if anything unusal occurs as this new moon makes a conjunction to natal Uranus, and an opposition to natal moon.

  3. eeek! Big weekend away…camping with 12 adults and 5 children under the age of 5! This falls near my natal Saturn and near Leoman’s Leo stuff, too. I am definitely NOT going to overindulge…promise:D

    (((((((hugs)))))))) for the Saturn/Moon transit…xo

    • Hey Kashmiri!! 😀 😀

What a group!! You all will have fun! 😀 Fingers crossed you get some decent weather . . . as in reasonably dry. LOL

One of more difficult things about this Saturn transit to my Moon is loosing touch with some of my women friends. Hopefully that will change once this last pass is history. Heh, I have seen a marked increase in Cancer folk & those with Cappy Moons in my life . . . must be Saturn conj Libra Moon makes me feel more like someone with a Cappy Moon!

  4. I will be attending my Leo brother’s birthday party on Saturday! It will be an all-day fete – with good food & drinks, music, cooking around the fire, story-telling (Ahhh, Mercury opposite Neptune! Big fish tales!). Mostly everyone who will be there will either be a fire or an air sign. A couple water signs, but they have fire & air influences. This should be interesting! 🙂

Thankfully there will be no “loose cannons” attending – everyone is (moderately) mature & responsible. LOL
So this should be a lot of fun, I think!

    • Yeah, sounds like a good mix for a party under this New Moon. 😀 Have a fabulous time!!

  5. Our friends want to have us over all of a sudden, within 24 hours of each other beginning tomorrow, and all I want to do is work on my final paper. Halp.

Well, it’s not really due until the third of August, and all my other assignments are done, but still. Halp.

    • Hey Deb! 😀

Our friends want to have us over all of a sudden, within 24 hours of each other beginning tomorrow, and all I want to do is work on my final paper. Halp.

Fun! 😀 If necessary, tell ’em you can come over for a set amount of time . . . and stand firm. Hopefully you will manage this better than I do. I keep forgetting to ask for a time frame ahead of time and usually end up feeling pissed, knowing it’s all my own fault. 😛

Uranus in Aries stirring things up in the fourth . . .

Good luck getting your paper written & ready to turn in! 😀

  6. Oh yes, happy to see that Leo New Moon, even if it’s in my 12th house! Unfortunately, our nice romantic vacation plans to Quebec this week fell through as my bf got sick (you know, now that my back is improving, sigh). Since I’m not spending money on vacation, I just booked myself to attend a professional conference (on my own dime) around Oct 20 and, after booking, I checked the ephemeris and the timing looks great for career networking! Having done that, I have to say I feel a little more free to enjoy my summer now instead of worrying too much about job hunting – at least I have the conference to look forward to. Meanwhile, bf will have some painful dental stuff to deal with in mid-August, but at least he should be feeling better this weekend so we can try to enjoy that Leo New Moon!

  7. Hey Les!
Unfortunately, our nice romantic vacation plans to Quebec this week fell through as my bf got sick (you know, now that my back is improving, sigh).

Good news about your back!! Yay! Booo on missing time in Quebec. Probably very beautiful there right now. Wishing a speedy recovery to your bf. And he has my sympathies about the dental work . . . makes eating a real challenge for awhile. 😦

Yes, do enjoy the New Moon and the whole of Leo season. Should be a good one for you as the Sun & Venus hit your Leo degrees!

Do keep an eye that Mercury-Neptune opp too seeing as how it is conj your Mercury. Ouch.

Ouch is right. My report from the field on Neptune transiting opposite Virgo Mercury is the worry-prone Virgo mind inundated with imaginging of disaster and with discontent that can’t be fixed. Not even with another glass of wine and more tv 😉 It will get better, as I learned from the long transit of Neptune conjunct my Descendant and opposite my Moon a few years back. Efficient Virgo likes to maintain control (Mercury-Pluto in particular) and Neptune finds that highly amusing.

  8. Hi,

You were absolutely spot on about the negative drama that will happen on New Moon in Leo. My birthday is Aug. 2, and this Sat night on the New Moon, my husband and I celebrated both by attending a concert at our club. One of our friends sitting at our table, had too much to drink and passed out and an ambulance 911 call had to be made that brought him and many friends to the hosptial (just to keep his wife company) Naturally it did put a damper on the party. Even though the party was not for me, I kept thinking this was a bad omen for me since my birthday is so close, and the new moon is in Leo. What do you think? Is this bad omen for my year or just the drama you talked about due to the planetary lineup? Any ideas?

    • Welcome cat!

Let’s see . . . you do get a Sun-Venus conjunction in Leo, very sweet! And Saturn in Libra is sextile the Sun-Venus, also a source of help & support. However, Mercury opposes Neptune and that could be tricky because of a lack of clarity. Jupiter will square the Sun-Venus, so it could be easy to justify going over budget. The Moon is in Virgo on your birthday . . . far less drama prone! 😀

The chart wheel is very important in a Solar Return chart and where you will be celebrating your birthday can make a big difference. The exact position of the Moon is also extremely important. Astro.com lets you calculate your solar return chart for free. (link in my sidebar).

      BTW . . . HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! 😀

  9. I’d read elsewhere I should be attending a benefit on the new moon, meeting like-minded folks and helping a charity out. yet i skipped the charity event i was meant to attend that eve for an org i work with. i’m triple libra, it wasn’t an easy decision, trying to avoid drama with co-workers by not going but wonder if missed an impt opportunity?
