Observations: Mercury Retch Musings

what I'm doing today . . .

what I’m doing today . . .

I know Mercury is retrograde for the second time this year but hey, it isn’t the end of the world! Most of us will muddle through OK even if we drop the ball a time or two. Please don’t let the idea of one small planet apparently moving backwards keep you from doing whatever you need to do. That would be silly, wouldn’t it? If you need to travel or buy a new phone or talk over important issues with your mother-in-law, DO IT!! Mercury retrogrades are usually excellent periods for doing research.

One of the tricks for feeling more comfortable during a Mercury Rx is to give yourself permission to slow down. Take more time to think before speaking and if you need to communicate clearly, write down your thoughts beforehand. Avoid doing things like texting while walking and/or driving too. Amazing how many supposedly intelligent people do that.

I’m going to be working on garlic harvest today, getting the dirt washed off before hanging it to dry out of the sun. Then there are peas and strawberries to pick and freeze . . . wonderful come next winter! Staying busy is probably the best way to deal with Mars in Gemini conjoining my natal Uranus whilst inconjunct natal Mars and Mercury over the next few days. That way I will be tired enough to sleep at night. 😀

  1. I accepted a job offer yesterday during Mercury Rx in my 8th house Cancer. Pretty crowded there as tansiting Jupiter in the same house will be conjuncting natal 8th Uranus on my first day on the job. These first few weeks will be a learning curve so I guess it is perfect for the Merc Rx. BTW, this job and a possible settlement to a nasty real estate situation seem to be the “gifts” I am receiving after enduring Saturn through Libra. Thank you, Diane for explaining that what I needed was “patience” with Saturn. I hope good things have come to you, too.

    • Congratulations, Linda! 😀 😀

Yes, Mercury (ruler of your 10th House) retrograde does make this a good time to patiently get all the details down. It also slows down your naturally speedy natal Mercury-Uranus sq. A good thing because both Mars & Jupiter in Cancer will be conjoining your natal Uranus during the Mercury Rx. Pace yourself . . . if you can! 😛

I hope good things have come to you, too. Me too . . . 😀

    • Hi Les!
Yum! Enjoy the harvest! Sounds like a great way to make good use of Mars-Uranus.

It is! We’ll have an abundance (Jupiter in Cancer) of good things from the garden over the next couple of months. 😀

  2. This mercury is kicking my patooty!! What up!? My ex resurfaced after of four years no contact. He moved three hours away from just last week. I had a huge knock down fight with my mom. And a man I used to work with and who is married invited me to lunch. Just a really odd week. The last two days I haven’t been able to get off the couch due to a migraine and now intense back pain. Geesh!!! It is transiting my 7th house and think will cross my descendent. I haven’t experienced this kind of intensity in a long time!

    • Hi Debbie!
This mercury is kicking my patooty!! What up!?

Looking at your recent transits, here’s what I think: You have two touchy natal T-Squares in the late degrees. One w/Mars in Sagittarius sq Chiron opp Uranus & the other w/Neptune sq Moon opp Jupiter. The parade of planets thru Gemini from the end of May thru June triggered both of those w/Jupiter in Gemini having the greatest impact. The Moon rules your DES so it follows transits to the T-Square with your Moon bring up 7th House issues like your ex as well as your mom. Mercury in Cancer slowed to station trine your natal Neptune, also triggering the T-Square w/your Moon. I feel Mercury’s involvement is more coincidental than causal. Jupiter, on the other hand, does throw his weight around and not always in a good way. Lots happening at once is more Jupiter than Mercury.

The last two days I haven’t been able to get off the couch due to a migraine and now intense back pain.

Physical pains are more Mars related & Mars in Gemini is currently making a waxing opposition to your natal Mars AND triggering the T-Square with Chiron!

Be gentle with yourself this week and say “NO” firmly if necessary in the interests of stress reduction! 😛

      • THanks Diane! Well, I knew something had to be going on in my chart. Another interesting thing is my ex contacted almost four years to the day we stopped speaking. What week, but some powerful lessons. I had an AHA today where I abandon myself and give away my power in relationships. More boundary stuff….it seems to be endless.

  3. Mercury passed my radix Saturn two weeks ago (and opposited radix Venus), which had some sobering up and desillusionement in it. Now retrograde MErc will pas my Saturn again, and direct another time. Is there something you can say about that? I mean, it is a fast planet, but three times… a fairytale or a tale from the dark side?!

Three times over the point is the norm for retrogrades no matter the planet. Mercury just takes less time because it moves so quickly. Besides, Saturn & Venus are part of your natal Basket Pattern and are well supported. A little sobriety is not all that bad, is it? *grin*

  4. Hmmm, yeah well okay Diane, you’re right 😉 I’ll try to settle for ‘normal’ 🙂
Besides, there are lots of things going on (Jupiter almost trine Uranus, because of your advice to Debbie, I think Jupiter is stirring up things for me as well) which make me both grumpy and happy, changing every few hours, but the overall feeling is I can handle it, not completely overwhelmed (yet… Jupiter’s not there yet… 😉

  5. What about if Mercury is in Libra, 1st House in your chart? How does it affect me during it’s Retrograde?

    • Welcome IP!
What about if Mercury is in Libra, 1st House in your chart? How does it affect me during it’s Retrograde?

Any planet in the first house is very visible. The degree of your Libra Mercury will determine how many times Mercury in Cancer will square it. Mercury went Rx at 23° and will go direct at 13°. This is an edgy, irritating transit and you may feel the need to defend yourself more than usual. Hard on the nerves too.

      xoxo diane~
