On September 22 shortly after the Harvest Moon (Full Moon in Pisces), the Fall Equinox arrives when the Sun enters Libra and we are three months away from the Winter Solstice. Summer is officially over, the days have grown noticeably shorter and from an astrological perspective this looks to be solemn season for us.
The tone set by the equinox chart is somber and favors those who are naturally pragmatic and practical. It is those people who have trouble coloring within the lines and have a deep seated need to live free from what they see as constraints who are most likely to run aground.
Libra is perhaps the most civilized of the signs in the sense it understands why society needs rules to function effectively and that may be why Saturn is exalted in Libra. Good manners are usually part of Libra’s repertoire and this sign is very good at using those to navigate social situations. Uranus in Aries represents those who are the antithesis of mannerly Libra – rash, rude and unable to conform even if it leads to their destruction.
The key to understanding what’s going on is Venus, Libra’s ruling planet. Venus is now swimming in the deep waters of Scorpio. She is widely conjunct Saturn, sextile Pluto in Capricorn, inconjunct Uranus in Aries and making a waxing square to Mars in Leo. She is also still widely conjunct the North Node in Scorpio. What this means is the scales are weighted in favor of applying liberal amounts of common sense to planning for the future. For instance, if you have an idea for a new business venture and need to borrow money to make it happen, then be sure to do exhaustive research as to why this will succeed. Document everything with care and keep your presentation clean, clear and brief. Neither Scorpio nor Capricorn will be distracted by fluff and glitter . . . they want accurate facts and figures.
Pluto in Capricorn is at a virtual standstill having stationed direct on Friday but there are powerful forces stirring deep underground. The Saturn-Pluto sextile is part of this and one of the reasons I feel working within the system will continue to be more effective during the period leading up the Winter Solstice. The next exact Uranus-Pluto square is November 1, 2013 when the Sun, Mercury and Saturn in Scorpio will be sextile to Pluto. Water continues to be the dominate element, dousing the fire of Uranus in Aries for now which can mean rebellions of all kinds are less likely to succeed.
The Libra Sun is inconjunct Neptune in Pisces and this suggests an avenue for dealing with frustrations is using our imaginations in a compassionate manner. Libra is good at seeing both sides of the issue and placing themselves in the other person’s shoes. Neptune in Pisces teaches the value of empathy. Rather than wasting time and energy railing against inequities, practice tolerance and be patient with those who see life differently.
