New Moon in Libra

New Moon in Libra

It is a scrappy New Moon at 11° 57′ Libra on 4 October 2013, 05:35 PM PDT. Ultimatums can be delivered, followed by the sound of doors being slammed shut by those who have decided they are feed up with the status quo. In case anyone has overlooked the fact Libra is a cardinal sign in good standing, this New Moon may deliver many reminders this is indeed the case.

All the storminess is due to the New Moon opposing Uranus in Aries with both squaring Pluto in Capricorn. The way this T-Square unfolds leading up to the New Moon is with the Libra Sun squaring Pluto on Tuesday and opposing Uranus on Thursday before lighting up the lunation on Friday. Libra has deep seated ideas about what constitutes fairness, justice and equity. When those ideals are trampled on first by the Powers That Be and then by self-centered rebels, Libra will gear up for battle and start taking aim at both parties. Many of the issues to be addressed have been brewing for quite awhile. Indeed some could be left over from Saturn in Libra transits a year or so ago. More recently both Venus and Mercury in Libra took turns participating in the cardinal T-Square. The Sun (and the New Moon) illuminates the differences and the arguments are raging everywhere. There is yet another major Libra transit to the Uranus-Pluto square coming around Christmas when Mars in Libra takes its turn. Since Mars represents the action principle this might be when people get serious about making changes. Interesting times we live in!

Venus isn’t going to be much help either because she is in fixed Scorpio arguing with Mars in Leo via a waning square. Venus-Mars squares tend to create scenarios where couples fight passionately, then make up with equal passion. With fixed signs the disagreements that precipitate the fight can become so entrenched it might not be possible to repair them. I suggest establishing rules ahead of time in order to fight fairly along with a means of calling time out. And there is always the old standard of agreeing to disagree to fall back on.

It might not seem like it a first glance but the Mercury-Saturn conjunction in Scorpio might be the key to surviving this New Moon. It is sextile to Pluto in Capricorn providing an avenue for effective communication. For one thing this conjunction is certainly not prone to verbal diarrhea, just the opposite. Words will be used only after a great deal of thought is given to figuring out exactly what to say. As I’ve said before, Scorpio and Capricorn are both ruthless yet ultimately extremely pragmatic. They will go for what works in the real world first and foremost. Unrealistic idealistic solutions are almost guaranteed to be tossed aside. Another helpful aspect is a waning trine between Mercury in Scorpio and Neptune in Pisces, good for applications of kindness and tolerance and those are sorely needed now.

Saturn does make an exact inconjunct to Uranus in Aries in this chart, pitting the need to rebel against the need for order and stability. This inconjunct will affect those with personal planets and Angles at 10° in the cardinal and fixed signs, Aries and Scorpio in particular. It’s an itchy aspect capable of creating lots of internal turmoil for those affected.

Something to be grateful for is Jupiter in Cancer basically sitting this lunation out . . . by my orb standards anyway. Jupiter has a way of amplifying the existing bias one way or another and the last thing this volatile atmosphere needs is more fuel.

Look to the houses where Aries, Libra and Capricorn fall to help determine how this Libra New Moon will impact you. Keep in mind this may be a much needed wakeup call to start you on the path to a better you. Or provide the necessary drive to launch an exciting new project. Please reserve judgment rather than rushing to hide under the bed!

On a personal note: For myself I’m going to keep an open mind . . . Venus in Scorpio is within a degree of my Ascendant and Mercury in Scorpio conjoins my natal Jupiter giving me a more positive outlook.

The whole New Moon T-Square thing may be within orb of my Libra Moon so I may not escape the turmoil completely. Something I’ve been contemplating is taking myself out of some critical family equations and no longer acting as a buffer/go between. That ought to set the cat amongst the pigeons!!

  1. I am so curious. When Venus made the Grand Cross, I fell obsessively in love and it is not completely over yet. Point is, the place where the grand cross is made whole, several times, is right on my natal Pluto (9 degr Libra). So now, the Sun is shining a light on my Pluto, but also opposite Uranus. Again, some unexpected shocking thing (did I say my Pluto lives in the 8th house?). The love thing, I nearly couldn’r handle it, but I guess with the Sun it is more internal, although Uranus might work from the outside.
After a few days getting used to this idea, I am not scared anymore.
Come on baby, light my Fire 🙂
But still like to know what you think of it…

    • Hi Brex!

Well . . . this is simply the introductory phase of the whole Venus-Pluto thing. You do have Venus sq Pluto natally & over the next few years Pluto will be conjoining your Venus several times including once on 17 March 2015 (last exact Uranus-Pluto sq). That event is the one triggering your natal T-Square, creating a Grand Cross. Between now and then you will have plenty of time to look at this issue from many different directions. 😛 Based on my own experience w/Pluto conjoining my natal Venus, I would suggest making a concerted effort to see your beloved as clearly as possible. The better we know a person, the less likely we are to project on them. Pluto transits often teach us, one way or another, about acceptance of what is, warts and all. That usually applies to ourselves and spreads outwards to those closest to us.

Just be your normal pragmatic Cappy self! 😀

  2. Crikey if life has not been difficult enough.Solar return October 4th so enjoying uranus and pluto already now this stressy new moon. When do us 11 degree libra catch a break?

    • Welcome Shona!
When do us 11 degree libra catch a break?

If it’s any consolation, you won’t have both Uranus & Pluto hitting your sun as a team again (exact sq at 11° last May 20). Uranus will make one last pass over 11° in March 2014 but Pluto will be back and forth until late next year. The whole Uranus-Pluto square series has been & will be hardest on those w/personal planets in cardinal signs from 0° to 15°. Like you & I . . . 😦

  3. Thanx Diane, I am a bit dissapointed that this is just the beginning… I hoped it would be the end (of obsessive love crushes, had them before, guess my Venus in 12th). And you are right about being clear about the object of my choice ;-), problem is, aspecially in love matters, I am a dreamer, project probably about everything (like… my own enormous capacity for love, seems like nobody can reflect it 😦 and therefore it actually only hurts. Well, I am done with the hurt now. It seems so black and white: for the last three years I put love aside, and I could choose to become a nun, but the longer I postpone it, the bigger my desire becomes. My Sun and Moon in earth want to feel, touch, see (like Tommy from The Who). But nobody falls in love with me! the moment I am into a relationship, I an go to work, because I do have the experience that complete and total honesty is the only way. But love seems further and further away…

Thankfully those Venus-Pluto interactions will wax & wane with the occasional uptick in tension. Keep an eye on Jupiter in Cancer as it transits your natal Saturn too. Jupiter likes nothing better than stirring things up. Starting next week Venus in Sagittarius will be transiting your Sagittarius MC & planets. 😀
