New Moon in Leo

In many ways this New Moon at 21° 31′ Leo on 14 August 07:54 AM PDT is the last big hurrah for Leo this year, after this we will gradually transition into calmer, more grounded Virgo. The four planets in Leo including the Sun, Moon, Venus and Mars create a bold, bright playful moment in time.

We are dealing with another See Saw Pattern for this lunation which may produce situations similar to what theFull Moon in Aquarius brought us. The Leo planets plus Jupiter and Mercury in Virgo are on one side of the chart with the four outer planets (Saturn in Scorpio, Uranus in Aries, Neptune in Pisces and Pluto in Capricorn) on the other. There might be many instances where we feel others have a greater say over our lives than we do, leading to feelings of frustration unless we choose acceptance over rebellion.

The aspects to the Leo Stellium (Sun, Moon and Venus) in particular can have people pulling their hair out. The trine to Uranus in Aries demands creative freedom and promotes a strong need to express our individuality with dramatic flair. At the same time, Saturn in Scorpio squares the Leo Stellium and we’re right back facing the same reminders and limitations we’ve been living with over the past few weeks. If we got the message the first time around and started living smaller, we’ll probably be well positioned to implement our New Moon plans.

A major shift takes place on August 11 when Jupiter leaves fiery Leo for well-grounded Virgo. Jupiter typically spends about a year in each sign and it is Virgo’s turn to host the big guy. Plenty of earth and water sign folk are going to find the change refreshing while fire signs will probably be grumping around for a while because they loved all the excitement of Leo. Jupiter in Virgo emphasizes the need to be helpful in a quiet, well organized manner. Check to see where Virgo falls in your natal chart to see where you can be of service to others. The only close aspect Jupiter makes on this New Moon is a semi-sextile to Mars in Leo, and that might lead to not being able to accurately assess how much time is needed to complete something.

Mercury is at home in Virgo now and is making a waxing trine to Pluto in Capricorn. If there is a project that needs serious research done before launching, this is the perfect opportunity for that. One small catch though . . . Mercury also makes a waning opposition to Neptune in Pisces! We can seriously use Pluto’s help for making sure all our facts are accurate and someone didn’t attempt to pull the wool over our eyes.

Even though there are still no planets in air, there are enough in earth and water to balance the ones in fire. Fixed fire (Leo) dominates the New Moon inviting everyone to share some laughs, take time to play and enjoy life for a few moments. Here in the northern hemisphere it still feels like summer though the further north we go the more aware we are autumn is not far away. Use this brilliant Leo New Moon to envision positive outcomes and to enjoy celebrating the joys of living.

Note: Timing is averaged for EDT to PDT.

  1. With Mercury now in my 10th house Virgo and Jupiter coming in on the 11th, not to mention a stellium in the 10th in October, I’m applying for new jobs while watching Saturn crossing the AC in a few weeks. If no new job, I will be getting a new boss and that will make my present situation more acceptable. (But I still want to leave so Jupiter in Virgo for a year is a good companion.

    • Hi Linda,

Jupiter in Virgo transiting the 10th does look like a more benevolent boss is in the works, one way or another. Good deal! 😀
