For those willing to try something different, the New Moon at 19° 16′ Aquarius on February 8, 2016 06:39 AM PST has plenty to offer. Aquarius is famous for being open to exploring new and theoretical avenues of thought. And Saturn in Sagittarius sextile to the luminaries provides the framework for the flash of genius inspired by the sextile from Uranus in Aries. This configuration is excellent for sparking marvelous ideas and turning them into reality. Fire and air sign folk are going to love this one!
While the Aquarius New Moon is doing its “brave new world” thing, there is another side to this lunation with a very different agenda. The planets in earth and water signs are having their own party with one planet in particular, Mars in Scorpio, creating problems by closely squaring the luminaries. A few days before the New Moon, Mars was exactly sextile to Pluto in Capricorn, Scorpio’s ruler, and this aspect is still within orb on the New Moon. This Mars-Pluto combination is especially effective at moving mountains because it combines Scorpio’s natural tenacity with Pluto’s willingness to go to extremes to reach its goals. The drawback to Mars squaring the Aquarius New Moon is this takes place in fixed signs, increasing the likelihood of ending up in gridlock. Given the sheer power of the Mars-Pluto aspect, I’d suggest going with the most pragmatic option rather than the idealistic one. The results are probably not going to be pretty in any case.
The two other planets in Capricorn, Mercury and Venus, are widely conjoined; with Mars in Scorpio sextile Venus and Jupiter in Virgo trine Mercury. I give both of these aspects big, gold stars! Venus and Mars dancing in harmony is always a treat and wonderful for creating passion in our love lives. The positive benefits of the Mercury-Jupiter trine include optimism and a knack for spotting important details integral to putting together really good deals. Progress made in our relationships and our business dealings under these influences have a good chance of lasting because it will be based in reality, not fantasy.
Venus in Capricorn does have some baggage coming into the New Moon. She was exactly square to Uranus in Aries the weekend before on February 6. Selfish, ill considered behaviors on the part of one or both partners may have created serious trust issues. This would be a good time to make amends or to make a clean break before moving on.
Speaking of fantasy, Neptune at 8° Pisces is drifting along and stays on the sidelines this time . . . unless you have personal planets or ASC from 7° to 9° in the mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces). Neptune transits are challenging enough without help from other planets. 🙂
This is an amazing New Moon with plenty of eccentricities to keep it interesting. Uranus ruled Aquarius likes to live on the edge and loves to throw people for a loop, something I have a feeling is going to happen frequently on this lunation. Take a long step back in order to gain perspective because the higher we go, the easier it is to see how seemingly disparate elements do fit together. Time to practice tolerance and detachment, people! Celebrate the humanitarian side of Aquarius.
