New Moon Solar Eclipse in Pisces, March 8, 2016

Eclipse Season has arrived and we start it off with a bang. On March 8, 2016 there will be a New Moon Solar Eclipse at 18° 56′ Pisces at 05:55 PM PST. The Luminaries are part of a T-Square with Jupiter in Virgo opposing them and Saturn in Sagittarius squaring them. This speaks of instant karma and the need to establish and follow realistic guidelines when attempting to manifest our dreams.

One of the keys to this lunation is recognizing the difference between a mutable T-Square and a cardinal one. We have been living with the Uranus-Pluto square impacting lunations for quite some time and have plenty of firsthand lessons in how to be assertive. Cardinal signs firmly believe if you want something the first thing you do is ask, and if that doesn’t work some will switch to demands, followed by threats . . . the direct approach. Mutable signs do not do direct but nonetheless they usually get what they want. They are often agreeable, occasionally noted for using misdirection and some of them are con artists. They teach us how to yield and flow around, over and under obstacles.

The Uranus-Pluto square is still operating in this chart but indirectly. Uranus in Aries is trine Saturn in Sagittarius and Pluto in Capricorn in trine Jupiter in Virgo. This time both outer planets are part of the solution rather than the problem. Pluto digs up useful, practical information while Uranus energizes and inspires.

The Virgo-Pisces axis is weighted more towards Pisces with the Sun, Moon and Chiron conjoined opposing Jupiter in Virgo. All the usual Pisces themes of spirituality, compassion and caring are there along with escapism and tenuous boundaries. Jupiter in Virgo champions the need to provide quality services to help those who are down on their luck. What Saturn in Sagittarius brings to the table is the potential for coming up with more practical means to getting the job done. On the downside, polarized positions and rigid thinking can prevent much of anything from happening. In any case, it appears there will be far more talk than action with differing opinions cropping up everywhere.

If you happen to have personal planets and/or an Ascendant from 16° to 18° in Gemini, those planets and any natal aspects they form will be sharply activated by the mutable T-Square. This may result in excess nervous energy and a multitude of distractions landing in your lap on the New Moon.

The lack of clear thinking is not helped by Mercury conjoining Neptune in Pisces. Mercury in Pisces excels at holistic, non-linear evaluation of information but often drives right by the right turnoff to get to the grocery store. Taking a leap of faith is not the best move either. This is a better time to meditate and dive deep into our unconscious motivations. Perhaps this will help us get a better handle on the reasons behind some of our less wise choices with the hope we can make better ones in the days ahead.

Not helping the decision making process is a wide square from Mars in impatient Sagittarius to Mercury in Pisces, creating the perfect setup to leap to all the wrong conclusions based on flimsy excuses and lousy data. Slow down and give others the benefit of the doubt!

Venus in Aquarius is wandering about on her own as she counts down the days before reaching Pisces on March 12. She has done her best to broaden our romantic horizons, one way or another. No one is better at friends with benefits after all. 🙂

We will probably end up with far more questions than answers on this New Moon Solar Eclipse in Pisces. The ambiguity factor is quite high with plenty happening under the surface. It is important to give ourselves plenty of time to digest what bubbles up from the depths in the days following the New Moon. Something else we can do for ourselves is tune-up our health habits by eating nutritious foods, getting plenty of exercise and quality sleep . . . nothing the Virgo-Pisces axis likes better! There is no better time to learn to practice patience, kindness and tolerance either.

Note: Timing is averaged for EDT to PDT.

  1. Eesh. This one will certainly be hitting me, with the eclipse directly opposing my Sun and squaring my Saturn. Will just have to see how it goes, I guess!

By the way, your blog design looks great! I think this is the first time I’ve dropped by here (have been very busy).

    • It sure will! However you also benefit from the trines Pluto & Uranus make. What was happening last Sept during the Virgo Solar Eclipse? This time around is clearly a follow up to what was set in motion then.

Busy is good if you are happy doing whatever it is that’s keeping you busy! 😀

      • The one last year wasn’t too eventful other than having gum graft surgery the next day!! (It went fine.) I keep thinking back to the eclipse directly on my Sun in 2007 on my birthday (conjunct my SR IC) and my mom died unexpectedly 10 days later. But there were other things then – Uranus opposition (sudden) and Saturn conjoined my Venus/Pluto as well. So I tend to be wary of these close eclipses, but you’re right – supportive trines this time. 🙂

        • Wincing at gum surgery! Very good to know it went fine! I tend to see those trines as providing exit options from the challenges of the mutable T-Square. 😉
