New Moon in Leo

There is more going on behind the scenes than we may realize on the New Moon at 10° 58′ Leo on 2 August 2016, 01:44 PM PDT. On the surface this is a classic fiery Leo event with plenty of warmth and drama tempered by a sedate trine to Saturn in Sagittarius. The undercurrents come from a tight inconjunct to subtly powerful Neptune in Pisces.

The New Moon in Leo aspected by the Saturn-Neptune square might play out by bringing people into our lives who may give us the choice between working steadily to achieve our goals (Saturn) or telling us we can get there the easy way (Neptune). For instance, most of us know the best route to good health is through eating good food, living an active lifestyle with plenty of physical exercise and getting enough quality sleep. However many, many people are seduced by someone’s sales pitch for a magic bullet of some kind that will achieve the same results with no real effort. Leo plus Neptune in Pisces is tremendously charismatic and because they believe their own lies, can be incredibility convincing. This is all part of the whole Saturn-Neptune square experience and it will be up to us as individuals to fight our way out of the fog into reality . . . or not, as the case may be.

Mars leaves Scorpio for Sagittarius merely hours before the New Moon but he is still squaring Mercury, now in Virgo. The thing is a mutable Mercury-Mars square is very different from last week’s fixed square when Mercury was in Leo and Mars in Scorpio. The fixed standoff involved a whole lot of Leo drama bouncing off the Scorpio silent treatment. The mutable square could entail yelling and throwing things. Virgo gets under Sagittarius’s skin by picking on what Sagittarius considers minor details until Sagittarius blows up and walks out the door. One thing for sure is it will make for some lively conversations that certainly won’t be boring.

The waxing inconjunct between Jupiter in Virgo and Uranus in Aries, exact on August 13, is an interesting one. Unlike the very uncomfortable Mars-Uranus inconjunct that many experienced up close and personal, this one will probably play out more in the collective. What Jupiter in Virgo sees as positive examples of service to those in need, no matter how small, Uranus in Aries will dismiss as beneath notice. The utter selfishness Uranus in Aries inspires will be clearly visible during the next couple of weeks. For those interested in how selfishness can be a positive factor, Armand Diaz, Integral Astrology, wrote a great post on Uranus in Aries in 2011.

On a more positive note, the delightful trine between Venus in Leo and Uranus in Aries is still in effect on the New Moon. Creativity thrives under this influence and so do spontaneous love affairs. Take time to be playful and enjoy the moment.

One of the best things we can do on this New Moon in Leo is call a time out and simply have some fun. Leo does throw a great party after all. Helping lighten the atmosphere is mutable fire (Sagittarius) dominates the lunation chart. Rather than dwelling on the darker possibilities, we can choose to see the humor in the absurdities of life on this New Moon. Laughter is the best medicine after all.

Note: Timing is averaged for EDT to PDT.
