New Moon in Libra, September 30, 2016

A clear sense of purpose returns with a strongly cardinal New Moon at 08° 15′ Libra on 30 September 2016, 05:12 PM PDT. After struggling to figure out up from down during the last two mutable eclipses, it is time to set new priorities and plot out where we want to head going forward.

Jupiter in Libra and Saturn in Sagittarius may not be within orb yet but with both planets aspecting the New Moon, we’ll be getting our first taste of them working together instead of being at odds as they have been over the past year. When Jupiter’s enthusiasm is teamed up with Saturn’s reliability, we can accomplish great things. At this time, Jupiter conjoins the luminaries and Saturn in sextile to them. Libra’s greatest wish is for everyone to get along even knowing how unlikely that is. However with Jupiter and Saturn’s help, this goal may be reachable after all . . . even if it is on an individual level rather than a global one. This is a wonderful moment in time to reach out and encourage a spirit of cooperation.

We do have to contend with Mars in Capricorn squaring Jupiter in Libra, and widely squaring the Sun and Moon in Libra. Libra and Capricorn have an interesting relationship because both appreciate an orderly society and good manners. There is a very good chance this square may turn out to be empowering rather than degenerate into a standoff if Libra can negotiate a truce and show how working together can leading to greater things, something Capricorn can get behind.

Libra’s ruler, Venus, is now wading through Scorpio’s waters and at this moment in time she is making a waxing trine to Neptune in Pisces (exact on October 1). Sacrificing all for Love is a possible outcome under this trine since Scorpio is known for committing 100% and Pisces has no boundaries or limits when it comes to love. All I can say use caution with this one . . . something the Libra Sun and Moon who are semi-sextile to Venus, and inconjunct to Neptune, reiterate. Libra can be surprisingly practical when it comes to love, in part because it has that air sign detachment thing going on as well as a dislike for too much turbulence in our personal lives.

By the New Moon, Mercury in Virgo is back up to speed and busy sorting out any lingering messes left from its retrograde. Remember the bad old days when Uranus in Aries was squaring Pluto in Capricorn? Well, Mercury in Virgo is in a unique position with those two. The trine to Pluto is on the wane (exact on September 23) and the final inconjunct to Uranus in Aries is waxing (exact on October 1). This suggests to me we could be tucking in loose ends left over from the past several years, some falling into place with ease and others insisting on being annoying.

After living through the two mutable eclipses with the Saturn-Neptune square pushing our buttons, this New Moon in Libra is a pleasant change. Jupiter in Libra is there to help maintain a positive attitude, always a good thing. The elements are in balance which is very fitting for a Libra lunation, and with the cardinal signs clearly dominating the modes forward momentum is possible again. Clarity is returning as Saturn and Neptune pull away from each other and while this may be painful for some, being able to see the truth is always best. It is time to take stock, let go of situations that no longer work for us and come up with a plan for moving forward in our lives.

Note: Timing is averaged for EDT to PDT.
