Full Moon in Aries, October 15-16, 2016

‘Fierce’ is one way to describe the Full Moon at 23° 14′ Aries on 15-16 October 2016, 09:24 PDT, in part because fiercely independent Uranus in Aries conjoins the Moon and opposes the Libra Sun. As long as partners do their best to give each other plenty of space and support the other’s need to express their personal autonomy, conflict can be kept to a minimum. If one person gives in to the need to be controlling, all bets are off and resentment may build at an alarming rate.

Libra’s ruler, Venus, only plays a minor role on this occasion. She is still in Scorpio, semi-sextile the Libra Sun and inconjunct the Aries Moon and Uranus. Knowing Scorpio, she’ll probably sit on the sidelines and watch to see where the pieces fall.

However Mars in Capricorn is right in the thick of things. Mars rules Aries and is especially powerful in earthy, controlled Capricorn. For one thing, he conjoins Pluto, concentrating the Capricorn forcefulness and dedication to achieving goals. Poor Mercury in Libra squares those two and as a result, words can easily turn into weapons. We need to take extra care about what we say, or risk wounding others deeply. That is why Mercury in Scorpio folk are often sparing with their words . . . they are very aware of the power those carry.

Mars makes a waning sextile to Neptune in Pisces (exact October 11), but still close enough for Neptune to gently remind Mars in Capricorn to act with compassion rather than expediency.

An exact semi-sextile between Saturn in Sagittarius and Mars in Capricorn might constrain Mars but not terribly effectively. Still Saturn does rule Capricorn so this time Mars may listen to his counsel. All these Mars aspects do add to the overall martial feel for this Full Moon.

By this time the Saturn-Neptune square that created so much confusion for months is slipping apart and Jupiter in Libra is moving up to add his bit. The waxing inconjunct between Jupiter and Neptune is tighter than the sextile to Saturn in Sagittarius. Jupiter in Libra and Neptune in Pisces are an odd couple for sure. Both are interested in keeping the peace and will work together in unusual ways to achieve that. Jupiter in Libra and Saturn in Sagittarius are essentially sextile within a few degrees for most of Jupiter’s stay in Libra. Both are interested in sharing knowledge and schools of types will benefit from this sextile. In other words, Jupiter in Libra is an all around good influence this time!

The challenge of any Full Moon is bringing out the complementary side of the opposition rather than the confrontational one. With Uranus conjoining the Aries Moon and cardinal signs dominating this chart, we are going to need to work harder than usual to find win-win scenarios. Asking for what you want (Aries) and being prepared to actively listen to what is being said are necessary ingredients for finding common ground (Libra). If we can successfully harness the powerful energies generated by the tense aspects of this lunation, we can make significant progress towards reaching our mutual goals. For best results, practice patience, kindness and exercise detachment from a specific outcome. Good luck!
