Week of March 20, 2017

Aries Season is here and it comes in with plenty of fire to kick start the astrological New Year. This is always a time when we are eager to move forward and put the past behind us. In the equinox chart helping us keep from over-reaching is a conjunction between the Sagittarius Moon and Saturn, both widely trine Uranus in Aries.  Aries’ ruler, Mars, in stubborn, placid Taurus helps slow the pace a tad too. The most troublesome aspect is the waxing square between powerhouse Pluto in Capricorn and Jupiter in Libra . . . the need to find middle ground and come up with workable compromises has never been more important nor more challenging to attain.

The first part of the week should go fairly smoothly but from Thursday through the weekend, Mercury in Aries is determined to stir the pot. It squares Pluto in Capricorn on Thursday and opposes Jupiter in Libra early Friday morning before going on to conjoin Uranus in Aries on Sunday. Ouch! I have the sense people are going to be saying a lot of unfiltered, tactless things that could leave plenty of ill will and hurt feelings behind. Please do make an effort to think carefully before speaking out!

The bright spot this week is the Aries Sun conjoining Venus on Saturday. Sun-Venus conjunctions are always a treat and wonderful for inspiring lovers everywhere. Enjoy exuberant expressions of affection and know those will come from the heart.

Getting back into work mode on Monday will be helped along by the early morning Moon-Saturn conjunction in Sagittarius but only to a degree because the Moon will be void-of-course for about five hours after that. When the Moon enters businesslike Capricorn during the morning, it should encourage us to shift into full on work mode. A bracing square to the Aries Sun right after the Moon enters Capricorn ought to get our attention though the friction it creates may make getting along with others a challenge. Work alone if necessary.

On Tuesday the Capricorn Moon has a better morning with a pleasant sextile to Neptune in Pisces bringing out her gentler side. This is good because by mid to late afternoon, she makes a fractious square to Mercury in Aries. By the way, this square gives us a foretaste of the kind of trouble Mercury in Aries will get up to later in the week. Both Monday and Tuesday should be productive days as long as we practice civility and tact. People are feeling the feisty Aries spirit now!

Early Wednesday morning we “enjoy” the monthly Moon-Uranus square after which the Capricorn Moon will go void-of-course for the rest of the day. It will be evening before the Moon enters cool, rational Aquarius. This is a good day to do finish up projects already in the works rather than starting something new.

It is probably a good thing the Moon will be in detached Aquarius for Thursday and Friday because that will allow us to achieve some emotional distance when Mercury in Aries is squabbling with Pluto in Capricorn and Jupiter in Libra. Thursday the Aquarius Moon will enjoy a sextile Venus in Aries during the morning, excellent for smoothing over disagreements. However a mid to late afternoon square to stubborn Mars in Taurus could undo all the good work unless we are careful to exercise some diplomacy.

Friday we’re blessed with harmonious aspects from the Aquarius Moon to Jupiter in Libra and Mercury in Aries during the morning, perfect for seeing the big picture. A lively sextile between the Moon and Uranus in Aries late afternoon/early evening keeps us on our toes as we close out the work week.

The Moon slips into quiet Pisces before dawn on Saturday, reducing tensions for the day. The Moon glides along making no aspects until the middle of the night when she will be sextile Mars in Taurus. We can use the day to regroup after a hectic week and maybe rest up for a change.

Sunday the Pisces Moon is deep in the Balsamic Phase preceding the Aries New Moon the following day. The only major aspect the Moon makes is an introspective sextile to Pluto in Capricorn during the afternoon. Since this is the day Mercury conjoins Uranus in Aries, we can use the dampening effect of a Pisces Moon to keep some folks from mentally combusting!

There are contradictory influences at work this week. On one hand we have the exciting rush of Aries Season starting, and on the other we’re moving into the dark phase of the Moon’s cycle. It will be noisy out there with all the fiery Aries energy charging about, but if you can, do find a moment here and there for an internal progress check. Resist the urge to push ahead immediately this week if you can.

Note: Timing is averaged for EDT to PDT.
