We have arrived at the Solstice and it promises to bring a sea change into our lives. When the Sun enters watery Cancer on June 20(21), the change in atmosphere will be more marked than usual in part because Mercury will join the Sun in Cancer a few hours later with the exact conjunction on Wednesday. Time to get used to living underwater again!
There are some very favorable aspects in the Solstice chart this year, always a plus for setting a good tone for the next six months. Personally, I love the Venus-Moon conjunction in Taurus with the Moon exactly trine Pluto in Capricorn, and Venus closely sextile Neptune in Pisces. This bodes well for turning compassionate ideas into real world solutions that can help many, many people lead better lives.
The water deepens on the New Moon in Cancer Friday, June 23. It is cardinal water (Cancer) that is the strongest influence, bringing home and family issues to the forefront. This is actually a good time to consider making changes to our homes whether it is buying a new one or remodeling our current home. Family relationships could be tense around this time, thanks to Mars in Cancer squaring Jupiter in Libra.
Mercury in Cancer is a very different proposition than Mercury in Gemini. Gemini is outgoing and finds it easy to talk to almost about anyone, while Cancer is much the opposite, especially when meeting people for the first time. We’ll need to dust off our non-verbal communications skills and listen with more than our ears. Mercury in Cancer is usually very good at articulating feelings but it is much more subjective than Mercury in Gemini.
Venus in Taurus struggles with an inconjunct to Jupiter in Libra very early Monday morning. It will probably be polite because both Taurus and Libra are Venus ruled signs that prefer to settle things amicably. In this instance the differences in opinion about how much something is worth could be the issue. Jupiter in Libra can take being “fair” to an extreme and Venus in Taurus may feel cheated as a result.
On Saturday, Venus in Taurus will be trine Pluto in Capricorn, always a great aspect for discussing our financial situation from a practical perspective. This is a good influence for couples to sit down and discuss budgets too.
Over the weekend, Mars in Cancer has his say. He squares Jupiter in Libra on Saturday night and then is trine Neptune in Pisces Sunday night. The Mars-Jupiter square could make mountains out of molehills and what started as a nice family evening could erupt into bitter disagreements. It’s a good thing Neptune in Pisces acts as the peace maker the next day.
For the most part this week those times when the Moon is void-of-course are brief and she maintains a good pace the entire week.
An Aries Moon gets Monday off to a brisk start and she is happily aspected right up to the time she goes void-of-course during the afternoon for a couple of hours. Favorable aspects to Saturn in Sagittarius, Mercury in Gemini, Uranus in Aries and the Gemini Sun are all good for keeping energy levels high. We will probably work better alone than as part of a team but the aspects to the Gemini planets keep communications flowing nicely. After the Moon enters calm Taurus late afternoon/early evening, we’ll be happy to slow down and put our feet up.
For the most part the Taurus Moon has a good day Tuesday, always good news for keeping productivity up and maintaining a good, steady work flow all day. One of the sweetest aspect she makes is conjoining Venus late afternoon/early evening. The Taurus Moon will be on hand late Tuesday night to welcome the Sun into Cancer.
Wednesday morning finds the Taurus Moon void-of-course. This is the only long void-of-course this week and it lasts until late afternoon/early evening when the Moon moves into spritely Gemini. We can continue to work quietly on projects we started the day before. This is first day of Cancer Season and we’ll need some time to adjust to having the Sun and Mercury in watery Cancer.
We’re officially in the Balsamic Phase of the Moon on Thursday and the Gemini Moon will be more subdued than usual. She does perk up during the afternoon thanks to a trine to Jupiter in Libra but that will be short lived because she’ll square enervating Neptune in Pisces about an hour later. The first half of the day will be better for meetings and catching up with people in general.
The same scenario repeats on Friday with the first half of the day more favorable for productivity. After the Gemini Moon is sextile to Uranus in Aries midday, she will be void-of-course until late afternoon. Once the Moon slides into Cancer, the first aspect she makes will be the New Moon in Cancer during the evening. Focusing on finishing up old business takes priority because we want to go into the New Moon with a clean slate if possible.
The weekend features the Cancer Moon and she will probably be in a mood the entire time. Saturday in particular could find our moods very changeable. A midday conjunction with Mars in Cancer in particular sets a very touchy tone, followed shortly by a contentious square to Jupiter in Libra. If you have family gatherings on Saturday brace yourself for plenty of squabbling. This is the day Mars in Cancer squares Jupiter in Libra and having the Cancer Moon triggering this square at 13° can make for emotional fireworks.
Sunday is somewhat better mostly because the Cancer Moon only makes one major aspect, a square to combative Uranus in Aries midday. After that the Moon will be void-of-course until late afternoon/early evening when she leaps into outgoing Leo. Sunday evening holds the most promise all weekend for having a good time.
There is no doubt we have changes to face this week as we transition from lively, mental Gemini to cautious, sensitive Cancer. In my opinion, having Mercury conjoining the Sun has the greatest impact. We go from a Sun-Mercury conjunction in Gemini where our words are the key to a Sun-Mercury conjunction in Cancer where our emotions override everything. No doubt there will be some hurt feelings during this time, so it is very important to practice kindness as well as our active listening skills. The quiet deepens over the course of the week as we draw closer to the New Moon. Play nice please.
