First I would like to remind everyone eclipses are a normal occurrence, usually happening at least four times a year. This one has gained an unusual amount of attention because it is a total solar eclipse sweeping across the USA . . . that’s all. That’s not to say it won’t be an awe inspiring event because having experienced one first hand many years ago, I can attest it will be amazing!
This is the second New Moon in Leo this year (the first was on July 23 at 0°44 Leo). The New Moon Solar Eclipse is at 28° 53 Leo on 21 August 2017, 11:30 AM PDT. What lights it up even more is an exact trine to revolutionary Uranus in Aries, guaranteed to get our creative juices flowing! In fact the luminaries are very well aspected and that suggests changes brought about by this lunation will ultimately be positive, though it might be quite a ride getting there.
Adding energy to the overall positive tone is a small triangle with Jupiter in Libra as the apex and Mars in Leo trine Saturn in Sagittarius as the base. Mars and Jupiter working closely together provide enthusiasm and drive, while Saturn keeps everything lined out and in order. Those folks who have personal planets and/or Ascendant from 20° to 21° in fire and air signs ought to enjoy a nice boost to their plans.
It is Venus in Cancer who is the source of angst in this chart. She is under stress from two squares – one to Jupiter in Libra and another to Uranus in Aries. The square to Jupiter is waning (it was exact on August 16-17) and the square to Uranus is waxing (it will be exact on August 24). This puts a great deal of pressure on Venus from both sides. Jupiter in Libra may press her to commit to a partnership she is unsure about while Uranus in Aries demands she maintain her freedom at all costs. I can see her retreating into her Cancer shell in order to avoid either option. Relationships could be tested at this time as we seek to find a balance between committing to another yet maintaining personal autonomy at the same time, something we may not have given much thought to before now.
Retrograde Mercury in Virgo only makes a very wide opposition to Neptune in Pisces, not the most auspicious of aspects. This is not a good time to take information at face value but rather plan on doing serious digging to confirm whether or not it is accurate. Put critical decisions on hold if possible and prepare to make revisions at a later date.
Other than the spectacular show this New Moon Solar Eclipse in Leo will be for millions of Americans, the tone is basically quite positive. For those who have personal planets and/or Ascendant from 27° to 29° in the fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius) there is a greater chance of a deeper impact to their lives but so much depends of how those planets are aspected in the natal chart. Why not relax and enjoy the experience if you’re fortunate enough to be able to see this solar eclipse first hand.
Note: Timing is averaged for EDT to PDT.
