Week of January 22, 2018

A better balance in the elements slowly returns the first week of Aquarius Season with Mars leaving watery Scorpio for fiery Sagittarius on Friday. All the personal planets in Capricorn last week were very good for tightly focusing on the essentials but at the same time weighed the atmosphere down. Most of us function best with a mix of air, fire, earth and water to draw on and now that is possible again.

Mercury is still in hardworking Capricorn and is quite active this week. Wednesday it conjoins Pluto in Capricorn and Thursday it will be sextile Jupiter in Scorpio. Adding Mercury to the Jupiter-Pluto sextile allows for coming up with clear, concise solutions to our financial issues as well as doing some serious financial planning for the future. Mercury is also noted for carrying messages from the Underworld which is why harmonious aspects to Pluto are great for helping us dig into our unconscious to learn more about why we do what we do.

A more restive aspect is on Saturday when Mercury in Capricorn squares Uranus in Aries. Uranus may pressure normally close-mouthed Mercury in Capricorn to reveal information it would rather have kept locked down. Mercury-Uranus aspects always inspire unconventional thoughts which can be very disconcerting to ultra conventional Mercury in Capricorn. Interesting times.

Mars making the move from intense, reserved Scorpio to adventurous Sagittarius is an interesting one. For one thing, Mars always enjoys being in a fire sign but watery Scorpio is an exception because Mars is the co-ruler of Scorpio and Mars is extremely effective there. In fact Mars fares well in Scorpio, Sagittarius and Capricorn since all three signs are within his comfort zone. The nice thing about Mars in Sagittarius is he is much more playful there and will encourage us to enjoy fun, physical activities for a change. This change will be quite nice for reigniting our sense of humor . . . laughter is the best medicine!

For the first time since early December, we have full time planets in air signs again – the Sun and Venus in Aquarius. When the Moon enters Aries in the wee hours Monday morning, she will have air available to feed her flames! This is great for energizing the atmosphere and a good way to start the work week. The Moon will square Saturn in Capricorn first thing but a lively sextile to Venus in Aquarius mid-morning will take care of any lingering blockages. It is time to make a concerted push towards our goals.

There may be more resistance the first half of the day on Tuesday when the Aries Moons squares Mercury and Pluto in Capricorn. But as long as we’re willing to work within established guidelines as much as possible, we’ll be fine. Tuesday evening may find some folks making last minute plans to play when the Aries Moon conjoins Uranus before going void-of-course for the night.

First thing Wednesday morning the Moon arrives in placid Taurus. She will be trine Saturn in Capricorn midday, an aspect that favors traditional, conservative choices over something more avant garde. We’ll get a taste of the conflict inherent in that respect when the Taurus Moon squares the Sun and Venus in Aquarius late in the day.

Thursday is very good for attending to the basics with the Taurus Moon happily aspecting Neptune in Pisces, Pluto in Capricorn, Jupiter in Scorpio and finally Mercury in Capricorn in the evening. If we got too far ahead of ourselves earlier in the week, Thursday is the best time to regroup and figure out what we left out of our calculations. Fire and air folk may chafe at the delays but the end results will be worth it.

Once the Moon leaps into Gemini Friday morning, she will happily remind us all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Since Mars motored into fiery Sagittarius around dawn Friday, the first aspect the Gemini Moon makes is an opposition to Mars. In this instance, these two are more likely to join forces and encourage us to play hooky rather than endure another boring day at work. If possible, take some personal time or at least get out of the office over the lunch hour. The Gemini Moon will be trine the Aquarius Sun Friday night, perfect for inspiring wide ranging conversations or simply enjoying hanging out with friends.

After the Gemini Moon squares Neptune in Pisces first thing Saturday morning, she will run free until before dawn Sunday morning when she will be sextile eccentric Uranus in Aries. Then the Moon will be void-of-course until midday when she slips into her home sign of Cancer. All day Saturday and early Sunday the energy will be lighter and more effervescent than it has been since the Winter Solstice. This is a great time to get together with friends and family to do something frivolous and fun.

After the Cancer Moon takes over on Sunday midday, the atmosphere turns cooler and staying home will appeal. The opposition between the Cancer Moon and Saturn in Capricorn Sunday evening may serve as a reminder we need to get back into work mode for the coming week.

After plodding along carefully watching our footing for what seems like a long time, we can finally lift our eyes up and start checking out the horizon this week. Not only that, we may notice our sense of humor coming back online once Mars enters Sagittarius. We’ll be in a much better position to see clearly where we can best apply the lessons learned during the Capricorn intensive we just finished. There are plenty of places to go, people to see and fun to be had!

Note: Timing is averaged for EDT to PDT.
