Changes Ahead: Mercury & Venus Shift Signs This Week

Mercury and Venus are on the move this week with one arriving in Cancer shortly before the other leaves it. Mercury leaves Gemini the day before the Gemini New Moon and Venus glides into fiery Leo a few hours after the New Moon.

Mercury in the water signs know how to keep secrets, very unlike Gemini who delights in sharing information freely. Mercury in Cancer tends to be very careful with words and is especially not prone to sharing personal information.

For the most part, Mercury is going to fare better in Cancer than it did in Gemini, thanks to harmonious aspects to the outer planets. This Wednesday, Mercury will be sextile Uranus in Taurus which is perfect for coming up with innovative ideas. It will oppose Saturn in Capricorn later this week as well as make an irritating inconjunct to Mars in Aquarius. In the end, people are going to be more inclined to stick with the ‘tried and true’ concepts.

Next week Mercury in Cancer creates a soothing Grand Trine in water with Jupiter in Scorpio and Neptune in Pisces. I like this pattern for improving our relationships with our nearest and dearest. Show your loved ones you care with hugs and kisses rather than words. On Saturday, June 23, Mercury will oppose Pluto in Capricorn, an aspect that may reveal power plays both at home and in the world at large.

Venus is not going to fare as well after she makes her grand entrance into Leo on Wednesday. She will promptly square Uranus in Taurus, something likely to bring out self-centered behaviors and the desire to have our own way no matter what. The only sweet aspect Venus in Leo makes is a trine to Chiron in Aries on Friday . . . something that will help us make some much needed apologies.

The following week she runs into problems with Saturn in Capricorn on Tuesday, June 19. Venus in Leo finds Saturn in Capricorn so stuffy and seldom appreciates Capricorn’s dry wit. On Thursday, June 21, Venus will oppose Mars in Aquarius which ought to liven up our love lives. However, things go downhill from there with a square to Jupiter in Scorpio on June 25 and an inconjunct to Neptune in Pisces on June 27. Venus-Jupiter squares can cause us to overindulge in so many ways, and Venus-Neptune aspects almost always lead to poor romantic judgment calls. Both can lead to serious hangovers.

The last aspect Venus in Leo has to endure is an inconjunct to Pluto in Capricorn on July 1. This one can bring controlling types out of the woodwork, something that is bound to create a great deal of discomfort. By the time Venus reaches Virgo on July 9, she will be more than ready for a change of venue.

One bright spot . . . when Venus is in Leo, it’s a wonderful time to tend to our glorious manes. This is especially true for those who have their natal Venus in the fire signs (Aries, Leo and Sagittarius). 🙂
