The New Moon Solar Eclipse at 20° 41′ Cancer on 12 July 2018, 07:48 PM PDT has a little something for everyone. For those who enjoy a challenge, there are several tense aspects creating plenty of energy, while a more calming influence is a Grand Trine in Earth. Using very wide orbs there is a second Grand Trine in Water featuring the Cancer luminaries, Jupiter in Scorpio and Neptune in Pisces.
Sitting across from the Cancer luminaries is Pluto in Capricorn. The Cancer-Capricorn axis is very security oriented, and are protective of those they consider part of their family. During the years when Uranus was in combative Aries, Cancer-Capricorn oppositions often ended up as T-Squares with Uranus . . . not the most stable situation. At this time we have a much kinder influence at work with Neptune in Pisces widely trine the Cancer luminaries, something that encourages Cancer to emerge from its shell and act with compassion towards those in need. Jupiter in Scorpio will add his optimistic outlook to this but only slightly.
The planet most likely to create problems for us is Mercury in Leo. It is the apex of Yod with Pluto in Capricorn sextile Neptune in Pisces as the base as well as being subjected to a square from Jupiter in Scorpio. Mercury in Leo loves to exercise creative license where the truth is concerned in order to make everything sound more important than it is, something Jupiter will only exacerbate. The Pluto-Neptune sextile addresses the big picture and can help us come up with creative ways to improve lives within the collective. However they both prefer to work behind the scenes and avoid the type of hype beloved of Mercury in Leo. One way to work with this awkward energy is to seek honest solutions to our big problems while reaching out to promote these in creative but calm ways. Better yet, demonstrate precisely how these concepts work in a real world setting.
Personally, I believe the best pattern at work now is the Grand Trine in Earth with Venus in Virgo, Saturn in Capricorn and Uranus in Taurus. Venus in Virgo adds a sweet, gentle, giving touch with Saturn providing tenacity and drive, both aided by Uranus in Taurus’s ability to tap into down to earth, innovative ideas. Lovely Venus in Virgo is the key to transmuting the outer planet energies into something we can comprehend and use in our daily lives. Even after Venus leaves this Grand Trine, the Saturn-Uranus trine will continue on for a couple of months . . . a true blessing!
Retrograde Mars in Aquarius does attempt to disturb the peace via a semi-sextile to Saturn in Capricorn but his efforts will probably be largely overlooked. Those who have personal planets and/or Ascendant from 06° to 08° in the fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius) may notice more turbulence, thanks to Mars conjoining, squaring or opposing those planets. There is little support for Mars so his efforts to agitate probably won’t be all that effective, a good thing in my opinion.
Water and Earth signs dominate this chart and we’ll need to adjust our approach to problem solving accordingly. In other words, pay close attention to emotional issues and non-verbal cues. This is one of those times when communicating face to face may provide the most accurate feedback. Take the bombastic rhetoric on the news cycles with a grain of salt.
All the calming influences at work on this New Moon Solar Eclipse in Cancer are what we need to respond with grace rather than react out of fear. Family issues are always a big part of this lunation as well as whom we consider to be part of our family or tribe. It might be time to expand our concept of family to include many more than those related to us by blood. Families of the heart, mind and spirit are equally wonderful to be part of too. After all, a loving heart always has room for more.
