We’re looking at a subdued New Moon at 15° 17′ Aries on 5 April 2019, 01:51 AM PDT. There are several factors contributing to this state of affairs. Most important is a square from stern Saturn in Capricorn to the luminaries which weighs heavily on the Aries forward momentum. Then there is Mars in Gemini, not the strongest placement for aggressive Mars because mental Gemini is not noted for taking the direct, forceful action Mars prefers. A more subtle factor is Uranus no longer in Aries, something that energized all the Aries lunations since 2011.
The intense face-off between Aries and Capricorn is nothing new. Ever since Pluto entered Capricorn in 2008, whenever the planets have entered Aries they have bumped up against it. When Uranus entered Aries it heated up the conflict between free spirited Aries and controlled Capricorn big time. Now that Uranus has moved into earthy Taurus for an extended stay and Saturn joined Pluto in Capricorn, the dynamic has changed and Aries is very much on the defensive.
On this particular Aries New Moon, it is Saturn most closely aspecting the luminaries and to Aries it probably feels like boundaries are being forcibly slammed in place. A wise move on our parts would be to voluntarily set our own boundaries while being careful to respect other people’s boundaries as well. It may chafe for awhile but in the long run (Saturn) it will pay off in better relationships with others and our selves.
Having Mars, Aries’s ruler, in Gemini isn’t all that great either. Mars isn’t that comfortable in any of the air signs where most of the action is theoretical rather than actual. Gemini’s habit of flitting from one thing to the next is hard on Mars who is at his most effective in disciplined, goal oriented Capricorn. The only close aspect Mars in Gemini makes is an unsettling semi-sextile to Uranus in Taurus which suggests choosing a course of action will be very challenging because what seems to work one minute may not the next.
On other fronts, Mercury in Pisces is now direct and still within a degree of Neptune. Saturn in Capricorn continues to anchor this rather squishy conjunction for now. This combination favors creative projects, especially those done to benefit people in need or our communities in general. It’s a great time to volunteer to do things like clean up our parks, paint over graffiti or do anything that reduces stress in our immediate environment.
Venus is now in Pisces where she encourages us to experience the joys of unconditional love. Venus, Mercury and Neptune in Pisces are all widely semi-sextile the luminaries, a gentle reminder enjoining the Aries Sun and Moon to be kind, compassionate and tolerant . . . not that brash Aries really wants to hear it.
As much as we’d love to make a huge leap forward on this Aries New Moon, small steps will be more effective than giant ones and we need to finish up old business before attempting something new. Once Mercury pulls away from Neptune and enters Aries on April 16, we’ll be able to see our way forward more clearly. For now the best course might to take our time and carefully plot out our next steps towards the future. As always, practice kindness each and every day.
