New Moon in Cancer, July 20, 2020

One of the things that makes this New Moon interesting is the fact it is the second New Moon in Cancer in July. Unlike most New Moons that stress beginnings, this New Moon at 28° 27′ Cancer on 20 July 2020, 10;34 AM PDT asks us to learn how making a clean ending is a critical part of the process of starting anew. Saturn in Capricorn exactly opposing the Cancer Sun and Moon adds his weight to the importance of making good endings.

Most of us know the only constant is change, whether we’re comfortable with this or not. What we’re experiencing at this time is a cardinal type of change rather than a mutable one. Cardinal changes are ones we initiate rather than going with the flow. Hopefully this means we’re making conscious choices about what (and who) we want in our lives. Where the Cancer-Capricorn axis falls in our natal charts can give us clues as to what is being phased out. It might be person, a bad habit, a career change, a move into a different home or something else. What we do need to keep in mind is the sense of finality about what’s happening now. It’s very unlikely we’ll be able to change our minds down the road. The plus side is we’ll have a clear space in our lives to build something new.

Mercury, Venus and Mars are busy on this lunation! Mercury in Cancer is now back up to speed and is making one last waxing sextile to Uranus in Taurus, exact on July 22. Our first impressions/thoughts are going to be worth following up on as they will be accurate more often than not. The irritating square between Mercury in Cancer and Mars in Aries is waning now but our words can still have quite a bite to them if we’re provoked. Continue to take a moment or three to think before speaking.

Alas, the Venus in Gemini-Mars in Aries sextile is beginning to fade away. The civilizing influence Venus has had kept Mars in Aries distracted and less inclined to raise hell. Now Venus is headed towards another square to Neptune in Pisces (exact July 27), ushering another bout of romantic weirdness and unrealistic expectations about love and money. Enjoy the lingering sweetness while it lasts.

Jupiter and Pluto in Capricorn are still traveling together though Jupiter is gradually pulling away in reverse. Jupiter will be exactly sextile Neptune in Pisces again on July 27, something we can be grateful for. The Jupiter-Neptune sextile has given us a glimpse of light at the end of the tunnel which in turn lifts our spirits enough to keep slogging along thru the debris left by Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn.

This certainly isn’t the most challenging lunation we’ve had this summer, unlike those eclipses. However it isn’t exactly sweetness and light either. Saturn’s return to Capricorn is highlighted on this New Moon in Cancer and many are feeling the pinch of instant karma. This has not been a good time to attempt to evade responsibility and indulge in denial because errors in judgment keep coming back to haunt us in real time. Therefore the best plan going forward is to keep practicing mature behaviors while always being as kind and tolerant as possible. Choose wisely! Peace and love to all.

Note: Timing is averaged for EDT to PDT.
