It looks to be a prickly New Moon at 16° 14′ Leo on 8 August 2021, 06:51 AM PDT. The Leo Sun and Moon are tightly square to Uranus in Taurus, driving the need to be free to do whatever strikes our fancy. For some this New Moon may provide the push they need to break away from a stifling situation though in general it would be a good idea to think about those who care about us before trompling all over them on the way out the door.
Mercury in Leo is in a sticky situation. It is the apex of a Yod with Pluto in Capricorn widely sextile Neptune in Pisces as the base. Leo’s dark side is a tendency towards arrogance and being overly prideful. They can get caught up with the fantasy they truly are kings and queens of all they survey, usually with unhappy results. Mercury in Leo is fighting way out its weight class with Neptune and Pluto, so it might be smart to choose to behave with kindness and humility rather than pride and arrogance.
Seconding the motion for choosing to be humble is Venus in Virgo. She is making a waxing trine to Pluto in Capricorn while opposing Neptune in Pisces. Venus is also semi-sextile besieged Mercury in Leo. Venus in Virgo is especially good at working with others for the greater good, and Neptune in Pisces is a natural partner for her in these endeavors. By carefully aligning herself with powerful Pluto in Capricorn, she gains strength of purpose beyond her usual quiet way of going about things. If we choose to emulate Venus in Virgo’s gentle humility rather than Mercury in Leo’s arrogant demands for respect, our chances of being able to emerge from this New Moon in Leo with a renewed sense of purpose are much greater.
Mars in Virgo has a tougher time of it on this lunation because it is making a waxing inconjunct to Saturn in Aquarius. Virgo and Aquarius have essentially nothing in common. Virgo is focused on each day’s routine and all the small moments that make up our lives, while Aquarius is interested in humanity as a whole and in looking for ways to improve our lives within our collective. As much as we’d like to take action, figuring out exactly what to do isn’t going to be easy. Do we sacrifice what needs to be done at home in order to fulfill the demands of society at large, or vice versa. This has to be an individual choice based on the facts we have on hand. Not easy.
We might want to hold off on pushing ahead on this New Moon in Leo. We’re all too likely missing important pieces of the puzzle at this time. The picture will gradually come into focus over the next week or so. Mercury enters analytical Virgo on August 11 and Venus will transition into fair-minded Libra the following weekend. Fixed signs dominate the New Moon chart, making stalemates more common than not. It might be a good idea to take a step back and breathe for awhile. Less drama and more patience is the key. For now, practice kindness, tolerance and patience. Peace and love to all.
