On the surface, this Full Moon at 27° 29’ Gemini on 18 December 2022, 08:36 PM PST, looks like happy days are here again. The Gemini Moon and the Sagittarius Sun are both harmoniously aspecting airy Jupiter in Aquarius, inspiring lofty thoughts and ambitious goals. Besides that, Gemini and Sagittarius both love to have fun and keep us laughing. As long as we make every effort to use our common sense and keep ourselves firmly rooted in reality, we can enjoy that Gemini-Sagittarius fun.
The planets that are working very hard to keep our feet on the ground are the ones in earth and water. The Venus-Pluto conjunction in Capricorn is right in the middle of things, making a semi-sextile to the Sagittarius Sun and an inconjunct to the Gemini Moon as well as a semi-sextile to Jupiter in Aquarius. In other words, even if we do our best to ignore the practicalities as we make glorious plans for the future, it won’t take long before we run into cold, hard reality. Venus and Pluto in Capricorn are best handled by striving to be as honest as possible. Maintaining our integrity is also a critical component because otherwise it is all too easy to slip into a destructive state of obsession.
One thing we can be grateful for is the squares between the Sagittarius planets and Neptune in Pisces are fading away. Gemini and Sagittarius can be overly optimistic in their expectations under Jupiter in Aquarius’s influence but without Neptune’s illusions complicating matters, those issues can be resolved in relatively short order. It does help that Gemini’s ruler, Mercury, is currently in very pragmatic, well organized Capricorn and making a waxing trine to Uranus in Taurus. This makes coming up with brilliant and original solutions that are quite practical which means we can take those idealistic goals and actually make them happen. Another aspect to Mercury underscores the need for pragmatism, and that’s a semi-sextile to Saturn in Aquarius. All successful societal changes are based on a firm, realistic foundation. If not, those changes will slip away over time, leaving us in a bigger mess than we started with.
Mars is only a few degrees into Sagittarius on the Full Moon and is not within orb of any of the other planets. Those people who have personal planets and/or Ascendant from 3° to 5° in the mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces) will get an energy boost from this fiery, free wheeling Mars. All too soon, Mars in Sagittarius will be the sole planet in fire, so enjoy this lively energy while it’s here.
Can’t overlook the tightening square between Saturn in Aquarius and Uranus in Taurus. The final exact square takes place on December 23 at 11° 06’. It is seldom easy to navigate Uranus inspired feelings of rebelliousness, and rebelling against society’s expectations (Saturn in Aquarius) is especially tricky. We can go way too far before we finally realize what we’ve lost in the process.
There may be the feeling of a cycle coming to an end on this Full Moon in Gemini. Partly due to how close the Full Moon is to the Solstice and the shift into Capricorn season. That doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy the moment! Our northern ancestors knew the value of heat and light to lift spirits in the deep on winter. So light some candles, build a fire either in the fireplace or outside and enjoy the warmth fire brings into our lives. Peace, love and joy to all.
