New Moon in Aries, March 31, 2022

Fire and air dominate the sky again on this very Aries New Moon at 11° 31’ Aries on 31 March 2022, 11:25 PM PDT. The heart of this energy is an Aries stellium composed of Mercury in Aries, Aries Sun, Aries Moon and Chiron in Aries. There is no better time to learn more about what makes a leader, and that there are many different ways to lead. Those who have Chiron or Saturn in Aries natally are the most likely to doubt their inherent abilities to stand up and take charge. As hard as it is to imagine, all it may take is getting out of their own way and stepping up! The Aries stellium is also semi-sextile Uranus in Taurus which adds a touch of unpredictability to the mix. All in all, this should be an interesting lunation.

Aries’s ruler, Mars, is still in Aquarius and making a waxing conjunction to Saturn in Aquarius, exact on April 4. Mars-Saturn conjunctions have been compared to driving with the brakes on and this is particularly true in fixed Aquarius. We might have to ride this one out and wait until Mars surges past Saturn and regains its freedom of movement. We’ll probably feel this by April 8 or thereabouts. Mars is also semi-sextile Jupiter in Pisces and that may help us feel more optimistic about our prospects for ending the stalemate we’re in on the New Moon.

It is worth noting Venus in Aquarius has already pulled away from Saturn in Aquarius on the New Moon. Venus conjoined Saturn on March 28 and was stuck in between Mars and Saturn, not a happy place for Venus at all. Venus is rapidly reaching the end of its stay in Aquarius and will move into Pisces where it is exalted on April 5. On the Aries New Moon Venus in Aquarius is semi-sextile Neptune in Pisces, a preview of what Venus will be like in Pisces. For now Neptune will slightly soften Venus in Aquarius’s commitment to being completely rational.

Speaking Jupiter and Neptune in Pisces, those two planets are widely conjunct at this time, heading towards their exact meetup on April 12. One of the themes of this conjunction is the feeling of irrational exuberance among other things. Some may feel intoxicated by life or be tempted to indulge in intoxicants. Now is a good time to pay attention to our emotions because emotional highs and lows are a possible side effect of this conjunction. Our perception of others can run the gamut of sinner to saint at any given moment. This can also happen in reverse, so don’t freak out if someone casts you in what you feel is a totally inappropriate role. Weird stuff.

After all the chaos Pluto in Capricorn caused in recent lunations, having it sit this one out is a real blessing. We always need time to recover from the turmoil Pluto can cause!

There is something refreshing about this Aries New Moon. For one thing it is a reminder how important self care is and how necessary to our sense of health and well being. Many of us expended a great deal of energy during Pisces season caring for others, often at the expense of our own health. As long as we realize it will take time and commitment to recover, and that it won’t happen overnight, we’ll be OK. The Mars-Saturn conjunction is more than willing to support a slow, steady approach to regaining our feeling of well being. We can really benefit from the blend of strong, forthright Aries energy with the generosity and compassion of the Jupiter-Neptune conjunction in Pisces. How we fare as individuals may depend on how the Aries stellium and Pisces stellium interact with our natal charts.

Let’s not forget one of the best things about this New Moon in Aries is FINALLY having a lunation with more planets in fire and air than earth and water. Spontaneity and enthusiasm return to the atmosphere brightening our spirits and opening the door to possibilities again. In many ways, this New Moon will feel like the true starting point for the new astrological year. Enjoy! Peace and love to all.
