New Moon in Cancer, June 28, 2022

The New Moon in Cancer has a unique twist to it because Cancer’s ruler, the Moon, conjoins the Sun which means tight aspects from other planets to the luminaries are especially important. This time the New Moon at 07° 23’ Cancer on 28 June 2022, 07:53 PM PDT is tightly square bombastic Jupiter in Aries as well as semi-sextile Venus in Gemini. Emotional reactions can be very large on this New Moon, thanks to the Jupiter effect.

Unfortunately being in a heightened emotional state does not usually lead to making wise choices. Thankfully Jupiter in Aries is sextile Venus in Gemini as well as squaring the luminaries. Venus in Gemini excels at using humor to deflect and defuse tense situations which is something Jupiter in Aries is likely to respond to in a positive manner. Something else Aries is good at is taking action, and if we use our feelings to empower us to take action in support of a worthy cause, so much the better. Nonetheless, we might want to take a time out to calm down before deciding on our next steps.

We can’t overlook the other Aries planet either. Mars in Aries is right in the middle of things too. Mars is square powerful Pluto in Capricorn, sextile Saturn in Aquarius and semi-sextile Neptune in Pisces. Here again the air sign planet, Saturn in Aquarius, can help us regain perspective as well as taking a more rational approach to problem solving. For once Neptune’s ability to enervate Mars may come in handy because a less aggressive Mars in Aries might prevent a serious explosion. The greatest threat comes from people being sucked into Pluto in Capricorn’s obsession with being in control, no matter what the cost is to themselves or anyone else. We do have tools we can use to find saner solutions. Stay centered and as neutral as possible, take a rational approach for a better perspective and choose to express compassion rather than seeking vengeance.

Mercury in Gemini is doing its best to encourage us to gather as much good information as possible. Mercury is currently making a waxing trine to Saturn in Aquarius, exact on July 1. On this lunation it is semi-sextile Uranus in Taurus, a rather peculiar blend of energies. Mercury in Gemini is nothing if not flexible, a very useful talent when interacting with unpredictable Uranus. Uranus in Taurus has a way of changing what we thought was cast in stone which is very upsetting to say the least. Mercury in Gemini can sift through the data and help us make sense of the new paradigm.

How comfortable we are with strong emotional surges will make a difference in how this New Moon in Cancer affects us and our lives. Thankfully all the elements are represented, giving us a variety of tools to work with depending on our personal preferences. As always on the New Moon, we are at a point where making a fresh start is called for and therefore it is a good idea to give ourselves time to process what is happening before taking the first step in a new direction. It is also a wonderful time to get back in touch with the rhythms of the natural world and stop rushing about so frantically. Focus on staying centered and calm, letting the turbulence flow around us like a rock in a busy stream. Peace and love to all.
