New Moon in Capricorn, December 23, 2022

Whenever we have a New Moon very close to the Solstice or Equinox, the feeling of starting anew is very strong. This New Moon at 1° 33’ Capricorn on 23 December 2022, 02:18 AM PST features a tight square to Jupiter at 00° 16’ Aries strengthening our desires to make a fresh start. There are five planets in Capricorn pushing the need to put together a clear, practical plan before we take our first step.

Mercury and Venus are also in Capricorn and both play important roles on this New Moon. Mercury in Capricorn forms an odd triangle with Saturn in Aquarius and Neptune in Pisces. Saturn in Aquarius is semi-sextile both Mercury and Neptune. The Mercury-Neptune sextile is excellent for translating dreams into reality. Artists of all types can find inspiration from this aspect. Saturn seems to act as a bridge between Mercury and Neptune, contributing a touch of perspective as well as reinforcing the need to set boundaries.

Venus in Capricorn makes a waning trine to Uranus in Taurus (it was exact on the Thursday before the New Moon). This one is a real blessing because it can help us redefine our value system in a gentle but through manner. Unusual yet practical concepts can pop into our heads, and we’ll need to make a note about those as soon as possible. If anyone is still looking for gifts at the last minute, this aspect can be a life saver.

After the important role Mars Rx in Gemini played on the Full Moon in Gemini, we can be grateful it seems to be out of loop this time. Nonetheless it will still have an impact due to the fact it rules Aries, where Jupiter is currently residing. Between all those planets in earth and the fact Mars won’t go direct until January 12, it might be a good idea to devote more time to refining our plans and clarifying our goals for the time being. Otherwise life will be even more frustrating when we can’t seem to get any traction.

It is seldom a problem when Pluto in Capricorn makes no close aspects on a lunation either. Pluto will be getting plenty of attention in 2023 when it starts diving in and out of Aquarius but that’s a story for another day.

All in all, this is a pretty straightforward New Moon in Capricorn. Cardinal earth (Capricorn) dominates this lunation and so Capricorn rules are important. If we consider the new year starting on the Solstice, it makes this New Moon the key to getting ourselves lined out for the coming year. Capricorn excels at creating solid plans in order to reach specific goals. Patience, consistency, honesty and plenty of hard work will get us where we need to be. For now, enjoy the holidays and take time to rest up because once we start moving ahead we’ll need all the extra energy we can come up with. Peace and love to all.
