As Full Moons in Cancer go, this one is quite mild mannered. On January 6, 2023 at 03:08 PM PST, the Moon will be full at 16° 22’ Cancer, nicely sextile to Uranus in Taurus. The cardinal signs have a slight edge with a good balance between mutable and fixed which tones down the usual cardinal aggressiveness during Capricorn season. Earth and water dominate the sky on this lunation and that suggests quiet, backroom negotiating will fare better than the direct, forceful actions so beloved of fire and air.
The Capricorn Sun conjoins Mercury retrograde in Capricorn with both trine Uranus in Taurus. These aspects blend beautifully with the Cancer Moon-Uranus in Taurus sextile. Anyone who has been struggling with finding a balance between their home life and professional life need to look around for ideas and opportunities to improve their situation. This is also great energy for people who work from home and need to make their home office space more efficient. Don’t expect instant results because we still have a stationary Mars retrograde in Gemini preparing to go direct on January 12 as well as Mercury currently retrograde in Capricorn. Most of us are pretty tired of feeling like parts of our lives are on hold but we can still do things like taking inventory of our existing situation to find those areas most in need of improvement. The old saying about “measuring twice and cutting once” applies now. A solid, well organized plan can be executed far more swiftly than one put together on the fly.
On the fire and air side of things, Venus in Aquarius is in the process of moving from a waning sextile to Jupiter in Aries to a waxing trine to Mars in Gemini, exact on January 9. This is a pretty, darn sweet place for Venus on the Full Moon. Relationships benefit from Jupiter inspired optimism and the witty, flirtatious energy of the Venus-Mars trine. Whether or not anything comes of these fun exchanges is anyone’s guess. This is more of an ‘enjoy the moment’ rather than getting all serious. By the way, this also applies to looking into possible investment options. Don’t be too quick to drop some serious change quite yet.
An odd but interesting aspect is the tight semi-sextile between Saturn in Aquarius and Neptune in Pisces which will be in effect most of January. Since Saturn is currently on its way to shifting from Aquarius to Pisces on March 7, this blend of Saturn and Pisces energy can give us a feel for what to expect. One of Saturn’s jobs is creating boundaries, an almost impossible task with Neptune in Pisces. Denial continues to run rampant in many aspects of our lives and it will be interesting to see how having stern Saturn in Pisces affects this trend.
Whenever we have a Full Moon in Cancer, it can shine light on family dynamics, thus giving us an opportunity to make adjustments and promote understanding. This Full Moon in Cancer looks quite favorable for being able to see our nearest and dearest in a clearer light. Uranus in Taurus harmoniously aspecting the luminaries presents the possibility any changes we choose to make will have us wondering why we didn’t think of that before. One possibility is making changes to our living arrangements that allows for more individual space, such as deciding to add an extra bedroom or even having some family members move into a separate dwelling yet still do things like share a meal every day. Uranus is great for coming up with truly unique solutions! Something else to consider is broadening our definition of family because it doesn’t have to be only those related to us by blood. For now, please practice being thoughtful and kind to all others we come in contact with. And don’t forget patience!! Peace and love to all.
