New Moon in Aquarius, February 9, 2024

There is an interesting twist on the New Moon at 20° 41’ Aquarius on 9 February 2024, 02:59 PM PST. The Aquarius Sun and Moon are closely square Uranus in Taurus, and Uranus rules Aquarius. We may as well prepare ourselves for learning more lessons about fixed sign change with Aquarius/Uranus overtones. Aquarius favors egalitarian options that benefit the many rather than the few, and Uranus in Taurus practically ensures an innovative yet practical approach. The likelihood of major flip-flops of some kinds are high, both in society at large and on the persona level. What seems cast in stone one day can be gone the next, and that is often the nature of fixed sign changes.

Venus has more influence than usual on this lunation. It is in Capricorn, trine Uranus in Taurus and semi-sextile the Aquarius Sun and Moon. It is worth noting Venus rules Taurus, another reason Venus has more impact. It is as if Venus is gently suggesting we remember to be kind and take other people’s feelings into consideration when contemplating our next move. Aquarius can be a little too detached on occasion and can forget people are not game pieces to be moved about willy nilly in pursuit of its goals.

Speaking of rational, detached thinking, Mercury is now in Aquarius and makes a waxing square (exact on February 10) to Jupiter in Taurus. There is no doubt Mercury in Aquarius is very sharp and excels at putting together very reasonable sounding arguments full of excellent ideas about how we need to live our lives. Jupiter in Taurus can push those arguments right over the top into very unrealistic territory as well as inspiring a deluge of ideas. We might want to sort through those later in order to find the ones that may actually work in the real world.

The waning sextile between Mars in Capricorn and Neptune in Pisces is a calming influence, combing Capricorn tenacity and Pisces compassion in a positive way. We’re lucky to have this aspect toning down the energy on this wild New Moon. We can use someone telling us to slow down and take it easy.

The Jupiter in Taurus sextile Saturn in Pisces is another voice for keeping our cool and remaining calm. The thread of nervous energy running through the atmosphere due to the Uranus/Aquarius energies can be hard on sensitive folk, and we can sure use this sweet, mellow vibe to help us stay sane.

Pluto in Aquarius is sitting this one out and that’s a good thing. We can use less Pluto inspired obsessions creeping in causing havoc!

Once again we can be thankful for the preponderance of earth and water signs to help balance out the edginess of the Aquarius planets. They promote keeping us at least partially grounded in reality while providing support as we negotiate changes and disruptions set into motion by the Sun-Moon in Aquarius square to Uranus in Taurus.

The New Moon is usually an opportunity to consider new options and goals, but we might want to allow the dust to settle first. We need to take into consideration both Mars and Venus are shifting into Aquarius the week following the New Moon, and that means both will be conjoining Pluto in Aquarius about twenty-four hours later. The fixed energy will be overwhelming until the Sun slips into mutable Pisces on February 18, which changes things up some and allows for a more intuitive approach when looking for ways to resolve issues. For now, it may be a good idea to consciously step back and breathe before making key decisions about our future. As always, practice kindness, gratitude and tolerance. Peace and love to all.

  1. As a fellow Libra, I wonder if you cast horoscopes? I’m 84 and have all transiting planets and nodes opposite their/my natal planets. Most crazy is transit Pluto in the 8th house opp natal Pluto. Michael
